Cultural festivities continue at Yateem Center

10.Oct.2007

Project Ramadan is a unique charity festival organized by Unisono in partnership with the Yateem Centre.

The fun continues this evening at the Yateem Center as Project Ramadan gets into full swing giving visitors the opportunity to participate in various exhibitions, debates and activities aimed at sharing the rich cultural diversity of Bahrain and enhancing the spirit of charity and cross-cultural understanding that is synonymous with the holy month of Ramadan.

Events are being held every evening until the 10th October, starting at around 8pm.

Project Ramadan, is a unique charity festival organized by Unisono in partnership with the Yateem Centre and features among other things a very rare photo exhibit displaying a treasured collection of the greatest existing images of Bahrain in the mid-1900's.

The exhibition of 30 rare images includes Dame Shirley Bassey, US Boxer Mohammed Ali and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The exhibit is sponsored by KSDI, City Neon and Union Plastics. A traditional bazaar is also a main feature, selling handmade arts and crafts by Bahraini families in need, the proceeds of which will go to the inspiring MACH (Make A Child Happy) project.

Amy Morgan, Partner at Unisono and organizer of the event said at the exhibition today, 'We're so pleased to be involved in an opportunity to celebrate what Ramadan is all about, charity and community and so far we've been really pleased with the number of visitors and the funds that we've been able to gather for those that need it most. We're expecting plenty of interest in the photo exhibition from our visitors and so far the activities for children such as face painting have proven wonderfully successful. If you come and visit you'll find fun for all the family available so do come by and visit.'

On Friday the 5th of October, in the spirit of positive communication the Very Reverend Alan Hayday, of St. Christopher's Cathedral will hold a special talk about Islam and Christianity - the similarities we share. A traditional band will also perform in front of the Yateem Centre alongside a camel, and the popular 'Merchants of Arabia' display provides visitors the chance to dress up and be photographed in traditional Bahraini clothes creating a memorable souvenir of the local culture.

Our nationwide recipe hunt is also still going strong, so send us all your traditional Bahraini recipes to be published in a special cookbook entitled Our Legacy: A Taste of Bahrain. As with all elements of Project Ramadan, this special book will be sold to raise additional funds for charity. The ever-popular 'Creative Kids' corner features Henna, face painting, hair braiding, nail art, temporary tattoos and special activities in arts and crafts for all ages to enjoy. Project Ramadan events will end on Wednesday October 10th, so come and enjoy the Ramadan experience before it's too late.
